A new progressive music project, Zeitgeist is a collaborative music endeavor featuring members of the progressive rock bands Happy The Man, Oblivion Sun, and the Pedal Giant Animals project. The recording project started out as an idea for a Happy The Man reunion CD, but evolved to include many other musicians so another Pedal Giant Animals project was born.

Camille Delage - Keyboards
Kevin Paquet - Guitars
Nico Damoulianos - Bass

Description/Reviews
While Montreal’s Cydemind use a violin prominently in their music, ... they sound more like if Tim Charles of Ne Obliviscaris joined Dream Theater…if they were an instrumental band.
While the band are all virtuosos, they don’t overplay necessarily. Yes the music is tight and quite technical at times, the band also understand the importance of the almightly riff and build their songs off of riffs rather than just soloing all over the place.

Line-up
Vitaly Kiselev - guitars, bass, programming
Alexander Malakhov - synthesizers

Description/Reviews
«The Ocean Of Unspoken Words» is Kiselev’s fourth studio album. It is completely instrumental and recorded in his own modest home studio. As always he used some of his old ideas, which were in an embryonic state and which incredibly transformed here into complex musical forms. This album is also written under impression of classical music such as works of Peter Tchaikovsky or Edward Grieg. However, inclusions of orchestration, the sounds of classical piano and organs, wrapped in a warm 70’s retro sound, are combined with heavy guitar riffs, seasoned with a variety of modern synth sounds.

Tracklist
  1. Routine Maintenance
  2. Avoid That Eye Candy
  3. Perpetual Notion

Jay Burritt - Electric bass, fretless synth bass, fretless electric bass, upright electric bass, vocals
Kai Esbensen - Keyboards, vocals
James Flagg - Drums, percussion, vocals
Jonathan G. Smith - Vocals, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, flute, clarinet, chimes, gong, glockenspiel, xylophone, mountain dulcimer, mandolin, banjo

Description/Reviews
Of course, the arrangements are arguably the most important part of any record, and Bubblemath “edits the hell out of all your peptides” by fashioning one of the most complex yet alluring sequences you’ll ever hear. Pieces like “Routine Maintenance” and “Perpetual Notion” explode with the biting riffs of Metallica and the grandiose zaniness of Native Construct, never letting up as they shift movements with an array of gripping melodies and timbres (including flutes, pianos, and miscellaneous effects), keeping your ears glued and your jaw dropped. In contrast, “Avoid that Eye Candy” and “A Void That I Can Depart To,” while still immensely decorative, are lighter in tone, focusing mostly on luscious yet quirky interlocking harmonies (although the latter piece also incorporates some ‘80s synth vibes and death metal vocals, a la Haken’s recent Affinity). There’s even a warm jazz-fusion aesthetic to “Making Light of Traffic” (thanks mostly to spurts of saxophone and a major sense of freeform playfulness), plus a staggering amount of rhythmic dexterity and dynamic temperamental deviations throughout “Destiny Repeats Itself.” (Seriously, just try to count all of the time signature changes.) As clichéd as it is to say, there’s not a dull moment on Edit Peptide, as each second offers an exuberantly exhaustive sonic pool in which to swim.

Brian Dade, Marcus Mulu, Cliff Pearson, Patricia Eaton, Andrew Eaton, Jessica Skene, Andrew Craig, Sasha Ioshpe, Chris Tracey - Additional Speaking Voices

Description/Reviews
'The Second Hand' is Anubis' fourth studio record, and marks a return to the narrative driven concept album format. It charts the downfall of an aging media mogul, James Osbourne-Fox, who, after a severe brain injury is left paralysed and imprisoned in his own body and left to contemplate the futility of his life of corporate success.
The album seeks to address the notion of balance, the media's influence on those who consume it, and how the bias and hysteria benefits no-one but those who sign the cheques, dividing people and leading to political turbulence and unrest. The lyrics - written very early in 2016 - had, by the end of the year and recording process, become seemingly even more prescient with the media and moneyed interest's roles in influencing the results of referendums, elections and even conflicts worldwide.

Description/Reviews
The band’s third release for Cuneiform follows in the elusive, meandering trajectory of their earlier work, which is always instantly identifiable if never quite definable. They’ve managed to conjure a unique collage of intricate prog, lush pop and experimental noise, drawing on hugely disparate influences without ever settling on a sound that could be definitively traced to any of them in isolation. Meaning that they always did and continue to, sound like no one but themselves.

Description/Reviews
Quiet Storms shows a more mellow and at times pastoral side to the band’s output containing almost none of the bombast and heaviness of the previous three studio albums, instead the majority of the songs and their arrangements evoke a more laid back, spacious and introspective atmosphere.
As well as featuring songs included as ‘extras’ on recent re-issues, Quiet Storms also includes several new songs along with new re-workings of older songs plus a few tracks which were included on the 2014 EP’s now appearing on an album for the first time.
Unusually for Galahad the album also contains a couple of cover versions, one being a stripped down piano, violin and vocal version of Rammstein’s ‘Mein Herz Brennt’ as well as a re-working of the John Grant track ‘Marz’ complete with additional words by Stu which, ironically, makes it a deeply personal track.

Description/Reviews
The band try to create a personal sound, different from metal and progressive clichè contaminated with jazz, pop, rock, latin and funk music, influenced by soundtracks from action and adventures movies with a unique attention to arrangements and sounds. ‘Side’ is a concept album, a journey through the life of the major character called Lily. Corruption, violence, war are the main problems of this allegorical world where all the narrated lives are bended together by music which create different atmosphere story by story.

John Mitchell (It Bites, Kino, Arena, Frost*) - vocals, various instruments
Craig Blundell (Pendragon, Frost*, Steven Wilson) - drums
   With:
Kim Seviour (Touchstone) - vocals (14)

Description/Reviews
Following 2015’s acclaimed debut ‘Please Come Home’, ‘The Big Dream’ has a core theme running through it - one that sees The Astronaut, the central character in the Lonely Robot adventure, emerging from a long period in stasis.
Mitchell explains: “The Astronaut wakes up from a cryogenic sleep but finds he’s no longer in space, and is instead in a woodland area surrounded by a group of strange people with animal heads! It's a little surreal, a little ‘Midsummer Night's Dream’ to some extent. This is something of a solipsistic haze, for want of a better description!”

Description/Reviews
... La Partition flows in a similar manner as Februus as a continuous listening experience, but strays in overall tone and technique. La Partition is broken into three distinct movements or acts in a development of the long-play structure of Februus in a way that better allowing the band to explore various conceptual settings and aesthetics while developing musical ideas in self-containment.
For example, the album’s first trio of songs are most reminiscent of the style of music heard on Februus, with bright ambient guitars and syncopated riffing characterized by uptempo songs and a sense of urgency, yet taking the time to foreshadow the darker passages that follow.

Description/Reviews
When Progressive Metal can be this accessible, it is something special for sure. The prowess of the band is omnipresent, and the heaviness is there as well, yet they let the album breathe instead of stifling you with too many tempo changes and overly technical performances that can sometimes feel cold. Indeed, it is warm, inviting, and full of life and vigor. Forward looking, and with no boundaries, the synergy of Progressive, Symphonic and Modern elements offer what is best about several styles of Metal into one album, with a bounty of wondrous tracks.
